Wedding tips for grooms

More and more men are taking the leading role in the initial stages of wedding planning. In 2011, 65% of my initial enquiries were from grooms then eventually the planning fell into the laps of their significant other. For all you men out there reading this post, here are some of my favourite wedding planning tips for grooms:

- Ask your bride-to-be for her advice on your wedding outfit. She will appreciate that you care about her opinion.

- Don’t rush into a store and purchase your outfit. You should get yourself measured for all the items you will wear- enjoy the process and make a day out of it!

- An ivory shirt looks better than a white one. White is harsh and can look like you’re headed to the office. Also, most women wear ivory    instead of white so you’re more likely to match your bride

- Have the back of your neck shaved the night before your wedding. Guests and cameras will be around you from all angles so a clean shave is  your best bet

Continue to romance your partner. Surprise her with flowers, send chocolates to her work, open champagne while watching a romcom. The romance should never end…

Purchase or make “RESERVED” signs for the wedding ceremony. Even if you’re having ushers escort your guests down the aisle, there may be some cheeky guests who move to the front for the best view of the bride and groom.  Your parents may be one of the last to walk down the aisle (depending on order of procession) so it’s important they have reserved seating in the front row.

Save the dates – do or don’t

Q: My wedding is only seven months away so I should be sending out invitations soon. Do I need to send out save the dates this close to the wedding or can I skip those and go straight for the invitations?

A: Invitations should be sent out two to three months in advance of a wedding, or six to nine months if the wedding is over a holiday weekend or a destination wedding. Save the dates can be sent out as far as one year in advance, so given you have time for save the dates these are good to send so you can add excitement and anticipation to your upcoming nuptials. I advise sending something in the post rather than an E-card but if time isn’t on your side an E-card is a safe option. So, bride-to-be, I do think you have time for save the dates but order them as soon as possible! Try these sites for starters
